ABOUT ME

Carine M. Diverlus, MEd, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) | She/Her

Seeking help of any form is so difficult in a society that prioritizes individualism. So, I am happy and proud that you are here for whatever reason it may be.

Through my own journey, I have witnessed a lack of therapists and mental health professionals of colour, particularly Black women, within the therapeutic field.
Having experienced for years, the detrimental aspects of not seeing mental health professionals who look like me, I decided to put in the work to be the change I needed to see. My dedication to providing mental health services is intentional not only in upholding the importance of representation, but predominantly in hopes that I can help break down barriers, so all individuals, especially people of colour, may feel seen, heard, and cared for.

My passion and role as a therapist is to help clients in overcoming the barriers preventing them from feeling like their best selves. This is often directly correlated to their relationships to themselves, others, and the outside world. Because of these barriers, individuals often are unable to recognize their own strengths, and are not allowed a space of vulnerability and care, which is usually when situations become heightened, overwhelming, and seemingly too much to bear.

I believe in strength-based approaches to healing. We are the masters of our own healing, and I am there to help guide.
Within this, I hope to help you feel empowered as you find your strength, to heal from life’s overwhelming situations, so you may find growth in yourself.

My therapeutic style is an eclectic mix of evidence based modalities as I believe that each one person is too different from the next, to follow one strict model.
Because humans have adapted a knack for using self-deprecation, I integrate a self-compassionate approach to my therapeutic sessions.
You are deserving of love, joy, and care from those around you, but most importantly, from yourself.

Therapy can seem scary; pouring so much of yourself onto a stranger. So, to make this process as comfortable as possible, I offer a free 15 minute consultation.
This is really the time for you to see if I am a good fit for you, and how we may work together.

This is your healing journey, and I am so happy you are here embarking on it.

Treatment Focus

Using an integrative therapeutic approach, I draw from many modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy.
I integrate mindfulness, inner child, and compassionate based interventions, allowing us to view you holistically rather than only looking at the presenting problem.
